Kids love to measure things. Supply them with a ruler, a yardstick, or measuring tape and ask them to measure different objects. You might want to have them record their findings. Discuss what measurements are (e.g., length, width, height, and depth).
Who is your child's favorite author? Do a little research about that person. Where does he or she live? When is his or her birthday? Celebrate that author! Make some tea and have a treat in his or her honor. Of course, your should read some of that author's books together too!
Create a game in which there's a mystery to solve (e.g., "The Case of the Missing Keys"). Take an object, say, the keys, and hide them. Then, write a series of sequential clues on small pieces of paper and place them around the house directing your child to the next clue. You can hide the clues or leave them out to be noticed, making it a little easier. Kids love being able to find the missing object!
Make drums out of pots and pans and use wooden spoons for drum sticks. Use pot lids for cymbals. Use boxes of dried pasta for shakers. Make lots of racket! Play along with your child's favorite music! Dance! Never forget that the family that jams together stays together!
