    rhyme time

Play rhyming games with your child. Start by saying one word and having your child respond with another word that rhymes with it. Go back and forth until you run out of rhymes, then move on to another word. Challenge yourselves by trying to maintain eye contact as you do this.

Another game is to match rhyming phrases, as follows:

    Child: "I climbed a tree."
Mama: "And what did you see?"

    jr. dj

Have your child choose a compilation of their favorite tunes. Then play them, as though your child were the DJ, and dance, dance, dance.

    collage

Dig up some old magazines (appropriate for your children). Let your child leaf through them and choose pictures to cut out to make into a collage. Have your child, with your help, cut out the pictures and glue them onto a piece of cardboard. Encourage them to spread the pictures around and to cover every inch.

    finger paint

Be creative with your little one with non-toxic finger paint. Yes, this can be a messy process, but it's an important activity to share with your child. It's also lots of fun. You might end up with something you'd like to frame and hang on the wall.

    here's looking at you

You'll need a large roll of paper (the kind you'd use for an easel). Roll out the paper, and then trace an outline of your child on it. Have your child color, paint, or embellish as they wish. If you want to preserve the image, cut it out and laminate it.
